This one is a quite recent addition to the ‘personal year charts’ lists. YT = YouTube link; if still available when you are reading this.
What kind of music?
Everything is welcome, as long as I like it enough. Because of liking tracks within about 1001 subgenres, from extremely old to brand new and from obscure stuff (often from the last decade) to huge hits (mostly older tracks), I prefer talking in terms of an 'underlying feel'.
Quite common in those year charts: grooves, horns, riffs, funky drums, warm chords, quirky sounds, psychedelica, a positive feel, a natural undertone, entire composition over lyrics, a 'human' feel underneath (also if it's 100% electronic and/or relatively harsh). And I like a dynamic production, where you can hear the details very well.
I'm not fond of obvious 'loudness wars', the typical autotune sound from 2008-now (goes often along with that loudness war phenomenon - I tend to call that combination 'robot music'), and forced hipness.
But there will always be exceptions, with an undefinable 'x-factor'.
To add or not to add?
If I like something clearly above average, it's welcome here. The stuff I could give 4 or 5 stars out of 5. For this site, 3 1/2 stars is a doubt case (although in fact still very good).
About the year of release/on which page you can find the tracks I add:
Basically, every track is on the page of it's original year of release (the 'oldest' year I can find, after searching sites like Discogs). Also if it became a hit 1/2/more years later. On the 1991-2013 pages, such tracks have been marked, though.
If you want to try a song mentioned on this site: Copy the title, paste it below and maybe it's on YouTube...
