This one is a quite recent addition to the ‘personal year charts’ lists. YT = YouTube link; if still available when you are reading this.
What kind of music?
Everything, as long as I like it enough. In fact, I like tracks within about 1001 subgenres, from extremely old to brand new and from obscure stuff (often from the last decade) to huge hits (mostly older tracks). So, I prefer talking in terms of an 'underlying feel'.
Most is quite light hearted, with a warm and natural undertone (also if it's 100 % electronic). You'll also find many tracks with a funky and/or psychedelic edge, tracks with - in my opinion - great sounds & chords. Subtle, on the quirky side or both.
I guess it's the reason of preferring a dynamic production, where you can hear the details very well.
Not much added:
I'm not fond of obvious 'loudness wars' in general, and especially the typical bloated, overproduced loudness war sound of 2008-now, the thing sometimes called 'turbopop'; often combined with autotune. Too sterile for me.
And forced hipness, sugary softpop like Celine Dion and a specific part of contemporary EDM (Afrojack's sound and similar styles) also aren't my cup of tea.
But there will always be exceptions, with an undefinable 'x-factor'.
Why this site is track based
There are full albums I really like, but in fact, I've always been a typical 'track listener' (in the early 90s already, when I started to like music; long before the mp3 era).
Potential all time top 400 tracks???
The best of the best. After making several 'all time favorites charts' for a Dutch discussion board, year after year, an amount of 400 tracks seems to be the best to distinguish these tracks from the rest.
About the year of release:
Basically, every track is on the page of it's original year of release (the 'oldest' year I can find, after searching sites like Discogs). Also when it became a hit 1/2/more years later --> on the 1991-2013 pages, such tracks have been marked, btw.
