2002 was an indefinable year, falling everywhere in between. The ‘real 00s’ were going to start soon, but now, there was no real dominating style or feel.

In general, 2002 sounded a little bit darker compared to the years before, though, maybe because of the whole Two Towers story and the recession in the world after that. Here in The Netherlands, styles like ‘hardstyle’ became a trend, a quite tight kind of dance music. Not as rough as our 90s gabber, though. In the charts, there was some eurodance like music with subtle hardstyle influences, like Jan Wayne.

* = dance music, about 120 bpm and upwards

    ABOUT THIS SITE

Besides links to my webradios, this site is filled with lots of songs to try. They are in the narrow bar on the left.

As long as I like it: everything (no purist talk here, when it comes to specific genres...), but in practice there's an emphasis on sound instead of lyrics. Expect lots of funky drums, grooves, riffs, horns, bleeps, chords and exotic instruments.

And in general, I like a natural feel (also when it's in fact 100 % electronic) and a dynamic sound, lacking obvious loudness wars. And forced hipness is simply not my cup of tea. But there will always be exceptions, with an undefinable 'x-factor'.

To add or not to add? There are three levels of 'very nice', when it comes to the track selection:
    1) The absolute TOP favorites, in other words: potential 'personal all time top 500' stuff. On this site marked with **** (1940-1987), or high in the lists (1988-2011).
    2) The sub top, still outstanding, and played frequently enough to add to this site. NOT marked with **** (1940-1987), or lower in the lists (1988-2011).
    3) Tracks I also like, and play from time to time; just not enough to add to this site. That's still a huge amount of tracks.

The selection of 2012 is just an alphabetic list at the moment, not in chart order yet, but everything on that page belongs to category 1 or 2.

About the year of release/on which page you can find the tracks I add: I see the 'oldest' year of release I can find, after searching Discogs and maybe other sources, as right. Also if it became a hit one/two/more years later. I'm very consequent when it comes to that, very clear.

    ABOUT MYSELF

I'm born in 1981, Dutch and female. My personal music history, because it's relevant on a site like this:

I'm listening to pop music since 1990, starting with my fathers cds/lps, with pop/rock oldies, some classical music, some 70s compilations with music like Boney M and Luv, and some typical Dutch stuff like BZN; some people would call it corny. No modern pop/dance yet (the Dutch children act Kinderen Voor Kinderen not counted; officially, KVK part 11 was my first cd).
